Let’s be honest, we all love the idea of waking up on December 25th to a sparkling snow-covered landscape. It’s what all the Christmas cards promise us and what all the best festive No.1 singers croon about. But the reality is usually a cold, drizzly morning with grey skies or, if we’re lucky, a touch of frost. Not quite the winter wonderland we hoped for.
If you fancy something a little different this Christmas, there are two very good reasons to head to Tenerife for the festive period. Firstly it’s warm, and secondly, there’s snow. Don’t worry, we haven’t lost our marbles – but you really can enjoy t-shirt temperatures on Christmas morning and still see a bit of the white stuff.
Thanks to its pleasant year-round climate, Tenerife weather at Christmas means it’s often mild and warm enough to knock about in t-shirts, shirt sleeves or just a light pullover. Of course there’s always the chance of a drizzle or a cold snap – just like back home – but more often than not, Tenerife offers a wonderfully warm and pleasant climate to while away the festive season.
And as for snow, you’ll find it in abundance high up on the lofty peak of Mount Teide. Spain’s tallest peak, a dormant volcano, really does have snow on top – even when the sunshine is blazing down on the beaches. It’s an odd feeling to spend a chilly morning near the summit, only to make your way back down to sea level and strip layers off as you go.
The best way to experience this contrasting experience is to hire a car – check out http://carhire.canarias.com/ for some of the best deals in Tenerife. This way, you can drive to the national park and experience the natural splendour of Teide in all its snow-topped glory, before heading off to explore the rest of the island or to warm up on the sands.
As far as Christmas in Tenerife goes, it’s a pretty unique experience. Why not come and try it for yourself?
